Regular visits to the dentist will give your child’s teeth the best chance at lasting a long time throughout adulthood. We advise that you introduce your child to the dentist as soon as their very first tooth appears (usually when they are around six months old).

During an appointment, we will assess your child’s oral health. This involves checking their teeth, gums, bite and jaw. We provide helpful advice about tooth care at home, including how to use dental tools and dietary advice.

Providing preventative care for your kids

We offer treatments that can give young teeth the best chance at lasting a long time. Fluoride varnishes strengthen the enamel, making teeth more resistant to decay. We can also add fissure sealants to your child’s permanent teeth as they emerge (usually starting around age six to seven). This is a clear plastic coating which covers the narrow grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to stop bacteria from entering and help prevent tooth decay.

Children’s orthodontics

We have our very own consultant orthodontist at the practice. We offer a full range of orthodontic treatment for children. The purpose of orthodontic treatment is to correct the alignment of the teeth and both upper and lower jaws, giving a healthy, functional bite. When the jaws and teeth are aligned correctly, we are able to keep the teeth healthy, as cleaning becomes easier and helps to prevent tooth decay and gum problems.

Straighter teeth can also help with speech, by bringing the teeth into the correct alignment with the jaws and improving lip support. There is also the positive effect on facial proportions and helping to prevent injury to teeth. Children will also feel the benefit of self-confidence, with straight teeth giving added emotional benefits.
